About us

Hello! I’m Rebecca, the founder of Bey & Bo. Here's a little about how it all began.

The story so far…

Bey & Bo started out as a hobby in 2020 when working from home became the new normal.  Like many others, I found myself searching for meaningful ways to fill the extra hours in my day. In the midst of my newfound free time, I decided to try my hand at making homemade candles. As I experimented with different scents, waxes, and designs, my hobby gradually transformed into a passion. The fragrant candles I created were not just candles; they told a story of life on the coast. I drew inspiration from the ever-changing scenery, the mesmerizing views of the Atlantic, the crisp sea breeze, the local fauna, and the rich cultural heritage that surrounded me. I have always been captivated by the charm of Portstewart and the Causeway Coast, from the ever-changing weather to the breathtaking views of the rugged coastline, a truly stunning part of the world, with castle ruins, quaint harbours, spectacular beaches, views of Lough Foyle, Donegal and Scotland in the distance, the inspirational list is endless! I was drawn to the idea of crafting something that would not only capture the scents of this coastal haven but also evoke the feelings of tranquillity, serenity, and nostalgia that the place had instilled in me.

Soon, my home was filled with the soothing aroma of these candles, and I couldn't help but share them with my family and friends. Their enthusiastic reactions were my greatest motivation, and it was then that I realized I had stumbled upon something truly special.  With a leap of faith and a heart full of passion, I decided to turn my beloved hobby into a business.

Launching a business with a name derived from my childhood nickname ‘Beybo’ feels like a beautiful blend of nostalgia and authenticity. It's a name that's been with me through the years, closely affiliated with my real identity (friends and family still call me Bey to this day).

This business is not just about products; it's an extension of who I am, a tribute to my roots. So, every time someone sees that name, it’s a reminder that my journey, my story, and my passion are woven into every product. Creating an eco-conscious candle brand was important to me. Sustainability, and being kind to the planet, is something we strive towards and has played an integral part in the Bey & Bo journey.

I hope that our candles and the extended range of home fragrance bring you joy and comfort as they fill your homes with the scents and beauty of the coast that has inspired them.

Thank you for being part of our story. We can’t wait to continue sharing the magic of our coastal-inspired scents with you. Let the journey continue and may the fragrant memories we create linger in your homes for years to come.

Let's talk about wax...

In the beginning, I started out making Soy candles but the more I discovered about it, the more it became clear that soy did not live up to it’s sustainable claims. Soy is grown on an industrial scale and has a multitude of negative environmental impacts. Just being a plant doesn’t make it Eco-friendly. Soy wax is made from the soybean oil and unfortunately the soybean industry is known for it’s deforestation and use of pesticides.

For this reason, all Bey & Bo candles are hand poured using a Rapeseed & Coconut natural wax blend.   Rapeseed and Coconut wax is the most sustainable and luxurious wax out there. It burns slowly and cleanly and also distributes fragrance evenly. This wax is blended in Europe and is made from coconut oil and rapeseed oil and nothing else. All wax is completely free from paraffin, soy, palm and beeswax.  It is vegan and 100%  plant based.

Coconuts are a sustainable high yield crop. The supplier of wax for Bey & Bo is pioneering a programme to train more farmers on sustainable coconut agricultural practices. There is no forest removal in order to plant new coconut trees.

Pure rapeseed wax comes from the oil of rapeseed, a common UK grown crop, free from GMO. The wax is natural, renewable and biodegradable.
